Joseph Beck KentJuly 21, 1937 ~ April 30, 2017 (age 79)
Cambridge-Joseph Beck Kent, 79, formerly of Cambridge, passed away Sunday morning, April 30, 2017 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Hackensack, NJ on July 21, 1937, he was the son of the late John Briggs Kent and Theodora Beck Kent. He graduated from Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, NJ and attended Cornell University.
Joe served in the U.S. Army and had owned and operated Joseph B. Kent, Inc. in Cambridge, a garbage collection business from 1960 to 2005 when he retired.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Cambridge. Joe enjoyed raising Charolais Beef Cattle and showing them each year at the Washington County Fair.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Philip Kent, Jerome Kent and John Kent.
Joe is survived by his children, Heidi (Steve) Jones of Red Wing, MN, Jill (John) Greening of Queensbury, Joe Kent of Cambridge, Julie Kent of Ball Ground, GA and Jerome (fiancé, Katie) Kent of Cohoes; his longtime companion, Rita Homer of Buskirk; grandchildren, Colin Greening, Halie Greening, Trevor Jones, Ben Jones and Jamie Jones; sisters, Mary MacGregor of Glens Falls, Gail (Rich) Turi of Cambridge, Theodora (Roger) Darling of Sterling Forest, NY; a sister-in-law, Linda Kent of Columbia, SC and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 2-4 pm at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge. A funeral service will begin at the conclusion of the calling hours at 4 pm with Jeffrey C. Peck, Parish Life Director of St. Patrick’s Church in Cambridge officiating.
Interment will be on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Joe may be made to the Washington County Fair, Special Awards Beef Cattle, 392 Old Schuylerville Road, Greenwich, NY 12834.
