Cambridge-Mr. James F. McMahon, of Cambridge, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the age of 79 after a long, hard fight against cancer. James, known lovingly by his friends and family as Jim, was born in Hoosick Falls, New York on August 17, 1937 to the late Elizabeth and Frank McMahon of Bunker Hill. He is predeceased by his brother, Bob, sister, Betty and a very special sister, Kathryn Anne. As a young adult, Jim attended St Mary's Academy, where he would ultimately meet most of his lifelong friends. In his youth, he worked tirelessly delivering newspapers and milk throughout the village. But after losing his dad at a young age, Jim left school and went out to find steady work to support his family.
In his early twenties, he and his brother, Bob, started out on his life's quest: to own a farm. The two partnered up and brought life back to the old Hatch farm in Cambridge. Here, Jim would remain tied to until his passing.
Jim was most content to spend his vacation time away from his primary job at Columbia Box Corporation in Walloomsac, New York by putting up hay for the winter livestock feed or by mending a pasture fence. As Jim would say, calving season was always his favorite time of year. He would walk out into the fields early each morning, anxiously looking for new faces in his herd. He never lacked things to do at the farm, and throughout the years he acquired an odd variety of old equipment and an assortment of parts and pieces which rivaled Sanford and Son. However, Jim wouldn't have dreamed of parting with any of it. Jim will be remembered most by his friends and family for his warm, contagious smile, accepting nature and ability to have a good time at any gathering. Jim was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be dearly missed.
