Dorothy May "Dotty" (Marshall) Loebel

August 15, 1928 ~ February 16, 2018 (age 89)

Salem-Dorothy M. Loebel, 89, of Salem, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

Born in Dorchester, MA on August 15, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James and Louise (Perry) Marshall.

Dotty graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls and attended Burrough Business School for Business Machines.

She worked at John Hancock Insurance Co. in Boston for a year and had married Clarence Loebel November 15, 1947.  They moved to New Jersey where Dotty worked as a bookkeeper for Manhattan Shirt Company and had served as the President of the Union. 

Upon retiring, Dotty and her husband moved to Salem in the 1980’s and she was the secretary at Holy Cross Catholic Church for 10 years.  Dotty was a member of the church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Salem and a member of the Republican Club in Fairlawn, NJ.

Dotty enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, crocheting and spending time with her great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Dotty was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Clarence “Larry” Loebel who passed away March 30, 2007.

Dotty is survived by a son, Richard (Judith) Loebel of Salem; grandchildren, Daniel Loebel, Ariel (David) Harper and Jonathan (Tabitha) Loebel; great grandchildren, Halley-Grace Harper and Logan Harper.

Visiting hours will be from 4-6 pm Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Holy Cross Church, 249 North Main St., Salem with Rev. Martin Fisher officiating. Interment will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

Dotty appreciated the many times the Salem Rescue Squad and Salem Vol. Fire Dept. were called to assist her when she needed help and requested that memorial contributions in her memory be made to the Salem Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 360, Salem, NY  12865 or the Salem Vol. Fire Dept., P.O. Box 449, Salem, NY  12865.
